BAPTISMSAt FBC we believe in the significance of water baptism. Many times in scripture, reference to baptism is mentioned, with the most noteworthy passage appearing in Jesus' Great Commission as recorded in Matthew and Mark. The Purpose of Baptism•Water Baptism identifies the believer with the Godhead – Father, Son & Holy Spirit. •Water Baptism identifies the believer with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection. •Water Baptism is an act of obedience for the believer. It should be preceded by repentance, which simply means “change.” It is turning from our sin and selfishness to serve the Lord. It means placing our pride, our past and all of our possessions before the Lord. It is giving the control of our lives over to Him. •Water Baptism is a public testimony - the outward confession of an inward experience. In baptism, we stand before witnesses confessing our identification with the Lord. •Water Baptism is a picture representing profound spiritual truth: Death - “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 (NIV); Resurrection - “We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. If we have been united with Him like this in His death, we will certainly also be united with Him in His resurrection.” Romans 6:4-5 (NIV);“But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”I Corinthians 6:11 (NIV)

Fran loves being outdoors, running, hiking, backpacking and kayaking. Her heroes are David and Peter from the Bible who, although neither were perfect, their hearts belonged to God. When asked, “Why Jesus?” Fran says, “Why not Jesus – He really loves me and you!”

MISSIONS -- REACHING THE WORLD WITH THE GOOD NEWSMany times throughout the Bible, we are told to be the living presence of Christ. In Acts 1:8, we find Jesus telling us where we are to do this...“you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and to the remotest parts of the earth.” This roughly translates for us to go outside of our church walls and into the world with the Good News of Jesus Christ. The goal of Christian missions is to bring glory to Christ by proclaiming his death, burial and resurrection to people who have never heard the Gospel. Our church supports missions in Anacortes, Washington state, the greater U.S., and within several countries abroad. Missionaries are supported by means of prayer, encouragement, and financial aid. Learn more about FBC supported missions and missionaries by stopping by our Missions Information Table in the FBC foyer.Handout: How You Can Best Support Our MissionariesHandout: Contact Information and Current Needs

CARING FOR OUR COMMUNITYUnderstanding that we are called to “bear each other’s burdens, so fulfilling the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2), serving our community is a major focus at Anacortes First Baptist. Outreach is not limited to reaching out to our neighbors with the life-saving Gospel message, it involves showing them we love them in the name of Christ! It means reaching outside our church walls and into the streets by helping out where we can. We have discovered that we can serve as "the hands and feet of Jesus" by assisting our neighbors in caring for their basic needs, obtaining necessities, showing care to those in distress, looking after our community resources and showing love and hospitality to those around us. To learn how you can get involved, contact Pastor Kevin at 293-5300.

FBC'S SMALL GROUPS - GET CONNECTED!At Anacortes First Baptist Church we offer a variety of ways you and your family can get connected by becoming involved in classes, small group studies, social events, and service activities. Our small groups serve as an essential means for personal spiritual growth. We believe Christians develop into spiritual maturity by being active in a small group where they study God’s Word, fellowship, pray, share, and care for each other. In these groups we discover how vital our relationship with Jesus is and the importance of our friendships with each other. FBC’s small groups include Adult and Children’s Sunday classes, youth groups, Women's Ministries Bible and Thursday morning men's studies, a Wednesday a.m. Moms group, and home-based studies. SMALL GROUPS FORMING NOW!We will be starting a new season of small groups in February and now is the time to pray about joining or leading one. If you would like to know more, please let Pastor Kevin know. We will begin small group sign ups the last two weeks of January.

SENIOR'S MINISTRY & PRIMETIMERSFBC’s Seniors Ministry, a.k.a. “PrimeTimers,” is sponsored by our church and is made up of people living in the Anacortes area who are at least 50 years of age and who wish to “GO, GROW, and SERVE.” Throughout the year, the group gathers together socially one Friday evening every other month for food, friendship and fun and sponsors small groups for spiritual growth and fellowship. Community outreach and congregational support is provided by PrimeTimers through two ministries: Servers INC, and The Encouragers. Servers INC (In the Name of Christ) exists to help seniors live in their own homes as long as possible. “We Make House Calls” identifies their mode of operating. Servers, INC is comprised of a broad-based team of volunteers of all ages who are available on call to engage in servant roles, individually or in partnership with others. They offer assistance in categories such as home maintenance and minor electrical, housekeeping and plumbing tasks. The Encouragers are volunteers who make visits to those who are homebound and to persons residing in assisted living facilities. A Tuesday morning Bible study class, the Kings Class, complements the Seniors Ministry with weekly meetings that include a time of study, testimonies, and a period of praise and sharing. As with the PrimeTimers’ activities, all ages are invited to attend this uplifting class.Primetimer 2012 Upcoming Winter Events:January 20, 2012: CELTIC NIGHT – A JOURNEY OF HOPE – Mt. Baker Theatre. CHILDREN'S MINISTRIESAt FBC we love your children and we hope to help and encourage parents as they seek to pass their hope in Jesus Christ on to their children. We're currently using a curriculum called “First Look” with our preschool children. We want preschoolers to take a first look at who God is and understand: (1) God made them; (2) God loves them; (2) Jesus wants to be their friend forever. Our elementary-age children are using a curriculum called “252 Basics” where we seek to teach each child that: (1) They need to make the wise choice; (2) They can trust God no matter what; (3) They should treat others the way they want to be treated. Each month has a theme and a virtue that is reinforced all month long with scripture memory, Bible stories, activities, and take-home questions for parents to have a meaningful dialogue with their children. In the month of November our preschoolers (ages 2-5) will be focusing on the basic truth that God loves me! Our memory verse for the month is Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind and loving to each other.”In November our elementary (grades 1-3) theme is Pit Stop: Pull over for a gratitude adjustment, which focuses on the virtue of Gratitude. Gratitude is defined as letting others know you see how they have helped you. Our memory verse for the month is 1Thessalonians 5:18 – “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”If you would like to help us teach children and help young families pass their faith in Jesus on to their kids, please contact Pastor Kevin at 293-5300 or by email at pastor.kevin@anacortesfbc.com. WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE BELIEVEAt Anacortes First Baptist Church it is our desire is to glorify God in all we do as His hands and feet in our community, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and His salvation, and through the power of His Holy Spirit to be like Jesus Christ. What We Believe We affirm that God through Jesus Christ calls us to be a redeemed people who claim a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. We subscribe to the universal Apostolic creed which says: We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of the heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried. He descended into Hades, the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, and He now sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Biblical Standards for Christian Living At Anacortes First Baptist Church it is our desire that all members grow into mature believers so that they will be effective servants in the Kingdom of Christ. The following areas of personal involvement are encouraged for all members: Baptism: Identification with His death, burial and resurrection, and an indication of membership in the church. Support: We encourage you to give financially on a regular percentage basis as an act of worship and thanksgiving. Not equal giving but equal sacrifice. Worship: Regular attendance and participation in Sunday worship services is the basis for all other church involvements. Worship before serving. Biblical Literacy: We strongly advocate that you study the Word individually and in groups for the purpose of knowing the story of God's salvation history and His purpose for the Church. Fellowship: We desire for you to get involved in this faith community and interact with other congregational members in social, family and church settings. Service: We will seek to help you discover, develop, and utilize your spiritual gifts and abilities for the sake of personal growth and the ministry of this church. Holiness: We request that you seek to live a moral lifestyle according to the principles taught and modeled by Jesus Christ, which exhibit the holy nature of God. We believe that when we seek to practice the same kind of love, grace and mercy that was modeled by Jesus Christ, we will be empowered to grow in these areas.
